Hi!
Please clear things up ad NiceHash reports 2 GPUS:
Do you use a single AMD Radeon Pro Vega Duo ? Meaning a single GPU with double processing units and I assume that is why NiceHash and Windows reports 2 GPUs?
If yes, if you had 2 x AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duos, would it report 4 GPUs and make the Mac Pro mine Ethash at roughly 300Mh/s?

The AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo with 2x32GB of HBM2 memory is 1 card with 2x GPU's.0x3141592 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 9:51 am Hi!

Yes to your question - but then you're in the hole 10k.

Those are impressive results! Do you mind commenting on whether your results have been consistent since your last post? Also, what are your thoughts on the future of mining (will this Mac Pro setup still be profitable overall)?

All I'll say is wait for the new Mac Pro's and Mac Mini's (ARM). There is MUCH more potential in those GPU's and CPU's from what I am hearing! When they get released, I promise you we will demo the most powerful setup money can buy from Apple's site. Stay tuned!

Hi, happy to have stumbled on this forum specialized in mining with Mac!
I have a Mac Pro / 16 core / AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo 32 Go / 96 go RAM
I’ve been trying to find out how to mine ETH using my GPU, but I’m not sure to quite understand how from this post…
Since yesterday I’ve been starting to mine ADA using xmrig but it's only using CPU..
I’d like to take advantage of my graphic card. Can I do it with Mac OS or do I need to use Bootcamp?
I’d love some guidance on how to set this up, it’s impossible to find anything for Mac online
Thanks!

Hi and welcome. Yes, we have a a guide to installing and using ethminer on Mac. Check here viewforum.php?f=4val3rie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 2:08 pm Hi, happy to have stumbled on this forum specialized in mining with Mac!

I'm pretty sure you'd have to use BootCamp/Windows.
And, yes, those are impressive results if you have one. I'm not sure buying one would pay off (for mining), though at the peak I had calculated (if I did it correctly) that one could be paid off in a couple of years. But, that assumed the crypto-market remained like it was for a bit there, which it hasn't.
But, I agree with the advice to wait (at this point). We'll need some Metal mining software, but the potential in terms of CPU/GPU power, especially considering the power used, is quite incredible in the new Apple Silicon machines (based on what we're seeing with the M1, scaled). I've read elsewhere that on-paper, the rumored 64-core GPU (which we might see in the 'pro' mini/MBP, let alone what they might eventually do in a Mac Pro) will be roughly equivalent or better than a Nvidia 3090.
But, again, all this won't matter if someone doesn't create some Metal optimized mining software (or Metal-optimized software in general, for doing other things).
