Crypto Mining on Mac's: Intel Mac Mini + Honeyminer + Miner Console!!

Post by macminergod »

Crypto mining on the fastest Intel Mac Mini Apple produced - the 6-Core 3.2 GHz i7 with Honeyminer. Honeyminer only supports CPU mining on the Intel Mac Mini as the Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB GPU is not compatible with a crypto miner at this time. Honeyminer uses a miner called "Honeyminer MX 5.2.4 which is based on the xmr-stack. We saw an average hashrate of 2.20kH/s mining Monero (XMR) coin. CPU wattage was around 60 based on Intel Power Gadget monitor. CPU Temperature stayed around 145℉. The Mac Mini's fan stayed on at the highest RPM throughout mining. What was interesting throughout our mining, only 6 of 12 cores showed mining activity from macOS Activity monitor. It would appear the Honeyminer MX miner only uses half the cores of the Intel Mac Mini for mining. Looking through the Miner Console, only 6 threads were started and there was a message about "WARNING on macOS thread affinity is only advisory". Visit for the latest crypto mining software and install guides for macOS and Windows Boot Camp.

Ok, so mining at 2.20 kH/s 24/7 365 days a year at the current XMR market price would net you $0.27 a day or $2.91 a week or $9.01 a month or $100 a year. Putting that in perspective more below could mean:

If you have 20x ($1249 per unit currently or $24,980 total) of this Mac Mini unit running 24x7 365 days a year you could net around $2000 a year. At this rate, you would make back your spend in 12.5 years. However, given the current volatility value of crypto, you could make that back much much sooner or much much later, possibly never.

System:
macOS Catalina 10.15.7
Mac Mini (2018) (Macmini8,1)
3.2 GHz 6-Core (12 cores total) Intel Core i7-8700B
32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Ram
1 TB SSD
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
